Session 4: Site Creation and Initial Data Connection

Course Code: CB-02
Goal: Master the correct process to onboard a new BMS site into CUBE Box, ensuring proper setup and seamless data connections for real-time monitoring and operations.

Session Overview

Duration: 1 Hour
Format: Instructor-led (via Microsoft Teams or in-person)
Level: Intermediate (Ideal for BMS engineers, project managers, site coordinators, and technical support teams)

Resources Provided:

  • CUBE Box Site Setup Guide
  • Site Onboarding Checklist
  • BACnet Discovery and API Integration Overview
  • Site Licensing and Architecture Configuration Reference

Learning Objectives

By the end of this session, participants will be able to:

  • Properly create new BMS sites in CUBE Box using various methods (BACnet discovery, API integration, manual configuration).
  • Set up site details including addresses, system architecture, licensing, and estimate connections.
  • Follow best practices for clean and efficient site onboarding.
  • Activate a project and ensure real-time data flow is initiated for monitoring and analysis.

Session Agenda

CB2.1 Creating New Sites: BACnet Discovery, API Integration, or Manual Configuration
  • BACnet Discovery Method:
    • How to use BACnet discovery to automatically detect and import devices from a BMS.
    • Benefits of using BACnet for faster and more accurate site setup.

  • API Integration:
    • Setting up API connections for seamless data integration from existing BMS systems.
    • Best practices for API integration, ensuring smooth communication between systems.

  • Manual Configuration:
    • Step-by-step guide for manually creating a new site in CUBE Box.
    • Inputting system components, connections, and relevant site details for manual configuration.
CB2.2 Setting Up Addresses, System Architecture, Licensing, and Estimate Connections
  • Configuring Site Addresses:
    • How to set up addresses for BACnet devices, IP ranges, and communication protocols.

    • Importance of accurate addressing for real-time data accuracy.

  • Defining System Architecture:
    • Structuring the BMS architecture within CUBE Box (e.g., control devices, sensors, networks).

    • How CUBE Box allows you to map system architecture for better management and monitoring.

  • Licensing the Site:
    • Ensuring proper licensing for CUBE Box integration with the BMS.

    • How to validate licenses for various system components and modules.

  • Linking Estimates to the Site:
    • Setting up estimate connections for the site, ensuring accurate cost tracking.
    • Connecting system setup and hardware configurations with project estimates.
CB2.3 Best Practices for Clean Site Onboarding
  • Data Consistency and Accuracy:
    • Importance of ensuring that all site data is accurate and complete.
    • Avoiding common onboarding errors (e.g., incorrect addresses, missing devices).

  • Streamlining Site Setup:
    • Using templates or predefined settings for faster and consistent site creation.
    • How to ensure that each component of the site (from devices to licenses) is correctly configured.

  • Verifying Integration:
    • Double-checking data flow and system communication for a smooth setup.
    • How to ensure that all systems are properly connected and reporting accurately.
CB2.4 How to Activate a Project and Ensure Real-Time Data Flow Begins
  • Activating a New Site/Project:
    • Steps to activate a new site or project in CUBE Box.

    • Understanding the activation process and ensuring all components are properly initialized.

  • Real-Time Data Flow:
    • How to verify that real-time data is flowing from the BMS into CUBE Box.

    • Monitoring and troubleshooting common issues with data flow (e.g., delays, disconnections).

  • Post-Activation Checks:
    • Running checks to confirm the proper data sync between site devices and the CUBE Box platform.
    • How to use CUBE Box tools to ensure data integrity and system performance post-activation.

Hands-On Preview (Optional if time allows)

  • Create a sample BMS site in CUBE Box using BACnet discovery or API integration.
  • Configure system addresses and connect a site to the CUBE Box platform.
  • Activate the site and ensure that real-time data flow is functioning correctly.

Post-Session Action Items

  • Review your current site onboarding processes and identify areas for improvement.
  • Test creating a new site using the BACnet or API method and verify data flow.
  • Audit your current site configurations to ensure accurate addresses, licenses, and connections.
  • Document the best practices learned during the session and implement them for future site onboarding.
