BMS Estimating and Engineering
PART II: Estimating: From Concept to Cost
Session 3: Using the Library Estimate
Course Code: CENG-03
Goal: Understand and effectively use the pre-built estimating library and the CUBE Market to streamline system creation and improve estimate accuracy and consistency.
Session Overview
Duration: 1 Hour
Format: Instructor-led (Teams or in-person)
Level: Beginner to Intermediate
Resources Provided:
- Access to CUBE’s Library Estimate.
- CUBE Market Link.
- System Selection & Customization Quick Guide.
- Sample Estimate File for Practice
Learning Objectives
By the end of this session, participants will be able to:
- Understand the role and benefits of using a centralized Library Estimate.
- Load, explore, and navigate the Library Estimate to access standardized systems.
- Create systems in active estimates using templates from the Library.
- Access the CUBE Market to search for and import shared systems, parts, and kits.
- Customize and manage both Library and Market content to align with project requirements.
Expanded Agenda
3.1 What is a Library Estimate and Why Use It?
- Purpose of the Library Estimate in driving consistency and efficiency.
- How library templates support team alignment and reduce rework.
- Benefits of starting from a predefined system rather than building from scratch
3.2 Loading and Navigating a Library Estimate
- Accessing the Library Estimate within your CUBE instance.
- Exploring system structures, naming conventions, and template formatting.
- Understanding the difference between working estimates and shared library files.
3.3 Creating Systems from the Library
- Selecting and cloning systems from the Library into a new estimate.
- Renaming, modifying quantities, and editing labor without disrupting template integrity.
- Ensuring traceability when customizing shared content for project-specific requirements.
3.4 Accessing and Using the CUBE Market (NEW)
- Introduction to the CUBE Market: A community-driven space for shared systems and resources.
- Accessing the Market directly from the CUBE interface.
- Searching for relevant systems, kits, or parts using filters and keywords.
- Understanding Market content types: vendor-certified vs. user-shared.
- Downloading and importing content into your estimate.
- Reviewing and customizing Market items to match your internal standards.
- When and how to promote imported items to your own Library for future use
Hands-On Exercises
Participants will:
- Load and explore the CUBE Library Estimate.
- Select and import two systems into a new estimate.
- Rename and modify systems to fit a sample project.
- Access the CUBE Market and import one system or part.
- Customize the imported item with internal tags, notes, or updated pricing
Post-Session Action Items
To reinforce learning, participants are encouraged to:
- Identify common systems in the Library and Market that can support upcoming projects.
- Collaborate with team leads to review and validate imported content.
- Begin building a list of approved library and market systems for ongoing use.
- Document internal standards for customizing shared systems
