Session 19: Final Lab: End-to-End Drawing Workflow & Certification

Goal: Complete and submit a full Visio-based project drawing package—from estimate import to final field-ready output—demonstrating complete workflow understanding and earning certification.

Format: Live Web Meeting or In-Person Lab (Instructor-led final project)

Learning Objectives

By the end of this session, participants will be able to:

  • Build a complete project drawing set starting from a CUBE estimate.
  • Import and use components and shapes from their established library.
  • Create a clean, logical system layout using Visio tools and automation.
  • Assemble a multi-page drawing set including risers, schematics, and field layouts.
  • Generate reference sheets, BOMs, and I/O tables aligned with CUBE data.
  • Submit the completed drawing set for certification review and feedback

Session Agenda

19.1 Starting from Estimate

  • Select and open a prepared estimate from the provided sample project.
  • Use “Build Your Project” to import systems into Visio.
  • Verify project info and ensure all components are present for drawing

19.2 Importing Shapes from Library

  • Navigate shape library folders to locate correct stencils.
  • Insert and align shapes per system requirements.
  • Apply component metadata and ensure Visio-CUBE sync is functioning

19.3 Building a Complete System Drawing

  • Generate schematic pages for control panels, field layouts, and I/O.
  • Insert riser and network diagrams as needed.
  • Add tagging, page names, and panel labels.
  • Apply Auto Layout, connection tools, and component grouping

19.4 Combining Drawings for Final Output

  • Organize drawing pages logically:
    • Cover Page.
    • System Pages.
    • Wiring Diagrams.
    • Terminal Block Pages.
    • Field Devices
  • Insert legends, notes, and index sheets.
  • Populate title blocks using “Get Project Info”

19.5 Generating Reference Sheets and Submitting for Review

  • Create Part Reference Sheet and I/O Table.
  • Export full BOM based on drawing content.
  • Export full drawing set as PDF for final submission.
  • Review and verify all components, labels, and tags for accuracy

19.6 Live Q&A, Troubleshooting, and Certification Assessment

  • Real-time Q&A with instructor to address issues or finalize deliverables.
  • Instructor-guided review of submitted drawings.
  • Certification checklist review:
    • Drawing accuracy.
    • Proper tag usage.
    • Clean layout and structure.
    • Final output organization
  • Digital certification issued upon successful submission and approval

Hands-On Deliverables

Participants will:

  • Complete a full drawing set from estimate through final export.
  • Generate at least 5 organized pages including systems, BOM, and I/O.
  • Use all major tools: shape library, tagging, auto layout, and “Get Project Info”.
  • Submit PDF drawing set for formal review and certification

Post-Session Actions

Participants are encouraged to:

  • Store and organize completed drawing files for reference.
  • Use the final lab submission as a template for future projects.
  • Schedule optional 1:1 coaching if additional review or improvement is desired.
